Math Jam attendance is required of ALL Pathways students.  Please review the "Next Steps" attachment in Step 4 for Math Jam dates and times.  If a student does not attend their assigned session they will forfeit their priority class schedule and will not be allow to participate in the Pathways Program.  Please plan vacations carefully to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Step 8:  Attend Math Jam (August)

Registration time is extremely important for students.  PCC opens its campus to assist students with the process on their assigned registration day.  If a student is out the area they must have access to internet, Google and YouTube in order to register online for fall classes.  If a student fails to register on their assigned day they will lose all priority!

Step 7:  Register for classes!

Info sessions are not required, but are a great opportunity for students to explore all that Pathways has to offer.

Step 6:  Attend Information Sessions (June & July)

Step 5:  Attend a group counseling session (May & June)

College Spotlight

Picture
Our spotlight is on the current
Admissions
Squeeze
 in the US.

Now more than ever it is crucial that students do their homework when it comes to their college list.  With acceptance rates shrinking, seniors should research schools that have strong programs in their desired area of study and have favorable acceptance stats and rankings.

Larry Gordon of the Los Angeles Times has penned several articles on the admissions process.  For the direct link, please click the article title below:

  • California students feel UC admissions squeeze
  • Acceptance rates at elite U.S. colleges decline

When researching schools, look for strength in desired major, location, opportunities for research or internship and 4-year graduation rates.  Don't worry too much about the name of the school, instead be sure to apply to schools that offer strong programs in your area of interest.

Example: Georgia Tech, Ranked #5 in Engineering, Acceptance Rate: 33%
